EDELMAN RUNS OUT WINNER IN THE OPENING WINTER STABLEFORD
Bonnyton’s David Edelman romped to victory in the first of the 2026 Winter Stableford series at Kilmarnock Barassie.
His 41 points was enough to pip Blairgowrie’s Craig Stephen and Stirling’s Alasdair MacLennan who each finished one point behind, with Craig claiming the runner-up spot by dint of a better back nine. David McNeill, Haggs Castle, finished fourth on 39 points.
A full field of 75 players took part in the event, with no fewer than 20 competitors shooting scores that bettered or matched their handicaps in fairly challenging conditions.
The Society is grateful to all at Kilmarnock Barassie for hosting the event and for their excellent catering and hospitality.
The second in the Winter Series takes place at Monifieth on March 19th when again a full field will compete for Order of Merit points.

Richard Johnston, Glenbervie; Graeme Innes, Fraserburgh; Willie Skene, Winterfield; and Gareth Pugh,Tantallon, also finished on handicap-breaking 38 points.

BIRDIES GALORE FOR JENKINS AS HE STORMS TO VICTORY AT WEST KILBRIDE
A fabulous round of 64, which included eight birdies, handed Scottish internationalist Robert Jenkins victory at West Kilbride in the third of the five Winter Stableford events.
Even with a playing handicap of +3, the Royal Troon stalwart amassed a magnificent 40 points to clinch top place by one point from Braehead’s Peter MacLeod.
Ken Goodwin, Prestwick, took third spot with 38 points.
Jenkins’ round was all the more remarkable given that he drove his tee shot out of bounds at the third hole in an otherwise blemish-free round, played in cold and breezy weather.
He birdied the second and fourth before going on a run of five successive birdies from the seventh and closing out his round with his eighth birdie of the day at the closing hole.
Overall he had a total of 29 putts, hitting every green in regulation apart from the third.
A total of 60 players took part in the event, with no fewer than 10 breaking or matching their playing handicaps.
After three rounds, Bonnyton’s David Edelman leads the Order of Merit table on 38 points. Scott Walker, Gullane, is currently in second place on 30.5 points and Jenkins in third spot on 25 points.
The fourth competition in the series takes place at Strathmore on Good Friday when, once again, there will be a full field.

McGARVA SHOWS HIS METTLE TO RUN
OUT EASY WINNER AT STRATHMORE
Kilmacolm’s Neil McGarva scored an
unmatched 42 points to secure victory in the Winter Stableford at Strathmore,
the penultimate tournament in the 2026 pre-season series.
The eight-handicapper shot a gross
72 - two over par - to take top honours by four points in a field of 57
players. A birdie at the 11th cancelled out his only bogey of the front nine.
He also birdied the 16th. His only real blemish was at the 18th where he ran up
a double bogey six.
Glenbervie’s Richard Johnston shot seven birdies in a round of 66 to take the runner-up spot.
Playing off a course handicap of +2, Johnston’s four-under par round for 38 points was enough to pip Cochrane Castle scratch player Alan Kelly by dint of a better inward half.
Former Scottish internationalist
Johnston recorded five birdies on the second nine for an inward half of 32.
Kelly matched that figure on the front nine but slipped to one over coming home
for a two under par 68.
Players were fulsome in their
praise for the magnificent condition of the course in general and the greens in
particular. Our heartiest thanks and congratulations to head greenkeeper Paul
Conway and his team for Strathmore’s superb presentation.
Our thanks also to all the catering
staff for their first-class service and hospitality, and to Strathmore’s Norman
Dyce for helping with registration and scoring.
The final tournament of the winter
series is at Drumoig on Thursday, April 9.
