ORDERS OF MERIT

The Society's main tour Order of Merit has been, and may continue to be, used by Scottish Golf Ltd as part of the selection process for the Senior Men’s International Teams.

However, the SSGS has no input into the selection criteria, team selection or funding of any of the international teams.

Any queries regarding these should be directed to Scottish Golf. It's selection policy can be viewed on the Scottish Golf Ltd website 

There are four Order of Merit categories:

* Seniors - Gross OOM: Open to all members. The winner is awarded the SSGS Gross Seniors OOM trophy.

* Seniors - Net OOM: Open to all members. The winner is awarded the SSGS Seniors Net OOM trophy.

* Super Seniors - Gross OOM: Open to members aged 65 or over on the day of events. The winner is awarded the SSGS Super Seniors Gross OOM trophy.

* Super Seniors - Net OOM: Open to members aged 65 and over on the day of events. The winner is awarded the SSGS Super Seniors Net OOM trophy.

Super Senior OOM

The Super Senior Orders of Merit are stand-alone, with different points allocations from the main OOM. Both the scratch and net Super Senior OOM run on a calendar year basis and conclude after the last Super Senior event of the year.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS FOR JENKINS - SCOTLAND’S TOP SENIOR GOLFER

It’s been quite a season for Royal Troon’s Robert Jenkins, Scotland’s Senior Golfer of the Year.

The journey that led him to his first Order of Merit title began in style at Kilmarnock Barassie in the Spring Meeting where he carded a two-under par second round of 70 to capture the first SSGS tournament of the season.

The following month he finished sixth at the East of Scotland Senior Championship at Leven with rounds of 71 and 72.

In June, the company director was off to Cyprus for the European Seniors Championship where rounds of 68, 73 and 75 earned him a creditable ninth place and leading Scot in a star-studded field.

Following that performance, his handicap index rose to the dizzying heights of +2.5.

Four days after his European adventure he was back on home soil at Bruntsfield Links for the Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championship where he finished fifth with rounds of 73, 73 and 71.

After finishing 16th in the Central Scotland Championship at Renfrew - his second poorest performance of the season - he went on to claim 12th spot at the South of Scotland Championship at Stranraer with rounds of 70 and 77.

Next up came the West of Scotland Championship at Erskine where rounds of 73 and 71 earned him third place.

A 7th place at the North of Scotland Championship over Moray Old kept Jenkins running ahead of his fellow Royal Troon member and Scotland team-mate Paul Moultrie in the race for the Order of Merit title.

But a win for Moultrie in the Autumn Meeting at Ballater and a 17th place for Jenkins meant they entered the final tournament of the season - the Scottish Senior Matchplay Championship at Glasgow Killermont - on precisely the same number of points.

Both golfers won all three of their round-robin qualifying matches to set up an intriguing knockout finale in which they could have met in the semi-final.

But Moultrie was beaten in the quarter-final by Glenbervie’s Colin Mundie while Jenkins progressed to the semi, guaranteeing him the Order of Merit title. Ironically, Jenkins also lost to Mundie who lost the final to Steven Armstrong (Turnhouse).

But although Jenkins recorded only one win in 2026, his consistency throughout the season meant he amassed Order of Merit points in every counting tournament he played in.

Receiving the Order of Merit trophy from SSGS chairman Alan Michie was, along with his appearance for Scotland at the European Senior Teams Championships in France, the highlights of an excellent year’s golf.

For Moultrie, who won the Order of Merit title in 2024, the runner-up spot was bitter-sweet. But he, too, could celebrate a highly-successful year, also topped with run-outs for Scotland at the European Championships and Home Internationals in Wales.

In the main tour handicap section, Kilmarnock Barassie’s Mark Gallagher scored Order of Merit points in four successive tournaments to claim the honours, with Mike Hall (Stirling) coming a close second.

And in the Super Seniors, pride of place in scratch play went to Scotland’s most successful senior golfer, Ronnie Clark (Erskine), in his first year as an over 65 competitor. 

George Barrie (Glenbervie) and Laurie Chancellor (Inverness) shared the runner-up position. Robert Smith (Nairn) finished fourth.

In the Super Seniors net, Ian Jeen (New Club St Andrews) emerged as Order of Merit victor with George Barrie second and Jim Emslie (Royal Aberdeen) in third place.
